During Toa Peh Kong each February, a traditional Chinese parade dating from the 14th century is held. During this period the following traditions may be observed:
  • Barongsai display in the form of 10m artificial dragon.
  • Ince Pia: a man who hits his back with a sharp sword without being injured.
  • Pikulan: a unique and motley procession of little girls sitting on carrying poles decorated with flowers.
  • Kuda Locia: a procession of young men on horseback dressed  in colored customs.
Other Celebrations:

After New Year: MENULUDE (Sangihe Talaud)
Menulude is a traditional Sangihe Talaud way of closing the New Year's celebrations. People prepare special cakes and beverages for their guests. It is also a thanksgiving day. Traditional music and dances are staged all night.

March 22: ANNIVERSARY OF BOLAANG MONGONDOW
The anniversary of the founding of the Bolaang Mongondow regency is celebrated with the traditional ceremonies including sports activities.

July 14: ANNIVERSARY OF MANADO
The anniversary of Manado is celebrated with cultural performances, dance and musical shows on the open-air stage in downtown Manado.

September 23: ANNIVERSARY OF NORTH SULAWESI
The official establishment of the province of North Sulawesi is celebrated with cultural performances and fashion shows in Manado and in the smaller towns and villages. Horse and bull races are usually held in Manado. For the youth there is a contest to select "Noni and Nyong Sulut" (Miss and Mr. North Sulawesi).

October 10: ANNIVERSARY OF BITUNG
The anniversary of Bitung is celebrated with traditional performances, traditional boat races, game fishing competitions, marathon 10-K and other attractions.

November 5: ANNIVERSARY OF MINAHASA REGENCY
Various attractions and performances are staged to commemorate the founding of the Minahasa Regency.
