It is important to carry some of the smaller denominations when travelling in Indonesia as many traders will not be able to give change for larger notes. You will also find that some shops will give you candies in lieu of change under Rp 100. Banks with 24-hour ATMs are available in Manado, Bitung and Tomohon. In other cities and towns in North Sulawesi you can get a cash advance on your credit card at the bank counter. ![]() Foreign currencies can be exchanged at any bank (compare exchange rates first!), and many hotels and resorts can accept US dollars and some other currencies. There is a moneychanger at Manado Airport, and several others in the city. Important: Both for cash and travelers cheques US dollars will get you the best exchange rates. The exchange rate for denominations smaller than 50 US dollars is usually lower. In general the banks and moneychangers will not accept dirty, torn or marked bills, so make sure you take new and clean ones along, and don't fold them. |
